KARACHI: At least six people were killed and 11 were injured after a suspected gas explosion caused part of a residential building to collapse in the Soldier Bazaar area of Karachi.

The incident occurred at a house located in the Gul Rana Colony area of Soldier Bazaar, which the District East police spokesperson said was possibly caused by a gas leak.

A statement by Rescue 1122 said search and rescue operations are ongoing at the incident site and an urban search and rescue team, along with a disaster response vehicle, is present at the site.

The police spokesperson added that a large contingent of law enforcers reached the incident site soon after it was reported, along with rescue teams.

“Police cordoned off the area and tightened security, while rescue agencies initiated a search and rescue operation,” said the police spokesperson.
