Australia ended their 10-year wait to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, defeating India by six wickets in the fifth Test at the SCG. The match saw Australia chasing a target of 162 on a difficult pitch.

Debutant Beau Webster played a calm knock of 39 and Usman Khawaja contributed with 41 runs, helping Australia secure the win in just three days. This victory not only sealed the series but also earned Australia a spot in the World Test Championship (WTC) final against South Africa at Lord’s in June.

Scott Boland was the star of the match, taking a career-best 10 wickets (6-45 and 4-31), playing a key role in Australia’s victory.

India’s batting struggled under pressure, with Rishabh Pant’s 61 being the only notable contribution. The absence of Jasprit Bumrah, who was out due to back spasms, and inconsistent bowling from India’s attack made it difficult for them to defend their total.

With this win, Australia moved to 63.73% in the WTC standings, guaranteeing their place in the final. On the other hand, India’s campaign ended at 50%, missing out on a chance to fight for the championship.

Now, Australia is preparing to face South Africa, led by Temba Bavuma, in the final for the prestigious Test cricket title.
