The federal cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, on Wednesday reviewed proposals for redesigning Pakistan’s currency notes and constituted a cabinet committee to examine the matter in detail.

According to a Prime Minister’s Office press release, the cabinet was briefed by the Ministry of Finance on the new designs of banknotes to be issued by the State Bank of Pakistan.

The meeting was informed that the currency notes are being redesigned in line with modern requirements and that international experts have been engaged for the purpose.

The cabinet decided to refer the proposed designs to a cabinet committee for further consultation and deliberation.

The cabinet also considered a draft of the Private Hajj Policy 2027-2030, presented by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, which relates to third-party registration and scrutiny of private Hajj operator companies.

In light of feedback from cabinet members, the prime minister directed that the draft policy be referred back to the Hajj Policy Committee for further review.

Separately, the cabinet ratified decisions taken by the Cabinet Committee on Energy in its meeting held on December 24, 2025.

It also approved decisions made by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the cabinet during its meeting on December 23, 2025.
