PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has hinted that young batter Saim Ayub might not participate in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy. He explained that the board is being cautious about Saim’s recovery and doesn’t want to risk his long-term career by rushing him back to play.

Saim Ayub suffered an injury on January 3, 2025, and his recovery process is still ongoing. The PCB chairman, speaking to the media on Sunday, stressed that the player’s health is their top priority. “We cannot put Saim’s future in danger just for one tournament,” Naqvi said.

The Pakistan squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, scheduled for next month, has not yet been announced. According to the board, they are in the final stages of deciding the team, as stated on January 21.

Saim Ayub’s absence could be a significant blow for Pakistan, as he has shown great potential as an opener. However, the PCB’s decision reflects their commitment to ensuring that players are fully fit before returning to the field. Naqvi assured that the board is working closely with medical experts to monitor Saim’s progress.

While fans may be disappointed not to see Saim in action, the PCB’s cautious approach aims to protect the promising cricketer’s future and avoid aggravating his injury. The final squad for the Champions Trophy is expected to be announced soon.
