WEBDESK: In a decision that surprised fans and industry insiders, CBS announced it will cancel The Late Show with Stephen Colbert in May 2026, marking the end of an era for one of late-night’s most influential hosts.

Colbert has been with CBS for over a decade, having taken over the iconic Late Show desk in 2015, succeeding David Letterman. Over the years, he transformed the show into a hub of sharp political satire, cultural commentary, and pointed humor, especially during the Trump presidency.

Reacting to the news, Colbert expressed gratitude, saying:

“It’s been a remarkable ride. I’m thankful to CBS, my team, and the audience who invited us into their homes night after night. This is not the end of the conversation — just the end of the show.”

CBS clarified the decision is strictly financial, citing challenges in the late-night television market and denying any connection to recent controversies involving their parent company, Paramount.

Still, Senator Elizabeth Warren raised concerns, questioning the timing of the cancellation shortly after Paramount’s settlement with Donald Trump, which she hinted “looks like bribery.”

Fans now prepare to bid farewell to a host who redefined late-night TV with wit, insight, and unwavering authenticity.
