The Punjab government has approved a new Support Card Scheme for widowed women to provide financial help to families in need across the province.

The program will be carried out by the Zakat and Welfare Department and is designed to support widows who are facing financial difficulties after losing their spouses.

Under this scheme, each eligible widow will receive PKR 100,000 in cash. In addition to this amount, extra financial support will be provided for children.

A widow with one child will receive an additional PKR 25,000, while those with two children will get PKR 50,000. This support aims to help families cover basic household expenses such as food, education, healthcare, and other daily needs.

The government has set aside a total budget of PKR 4 billion for this initiative. Officials say the scheme is expected to be launched by the end of this month. Once the program officially begins, registration of eligible widows will start, followed by the distribution of funds.

Authorities believe this initiative will provide timely relief to thousands of widowed women who often struggle to manage household responsibilities on their own. By offering direct cash assistance, the government hopes to reduce financial stress and improve the quality of life for vulnerable families.

The Zakat and Welfare Department will oversee the registration process to ensure transparency and fair distribution of funds. Eligible applicants will be verified according to set criteria to make sure the assistance reaches those who truly need it.

This Support Card Scheme reflects the Punjab government’s commitment to social welfare and supporting marginalized groups. Officials say similar programs may be expanded in the future to help more families facing economic challenges across the province.
