Dubai Misdemeanour Court convicted an Asian driver and fined him Dhs5,000 and obliged him to pay a legal diyah (blood money) of Dhs200,000 to the heirs of a motorbiker.
The details of the case date back to January 2023, when a report was received about an accident between a vehicle and a motorcycle in Al Qusais area of Dubai.
A policeman stated that he arrived at the accident site and found the victim lying on the road with severe injuries.
He was reportedly transferred by ambulance to a hospital in Al Qusais area, but an alert was sent reporting his death upon arrival at the hospital due to his severe injuries.
The policeman added that he saw the suspect at the accident site, who informed him that he suddenly veered from his lane while driving his vehicle and attempted to return to it again, but he lost control of the vehicle and collided with the motorcycle and an advertising board on the other side.
He reportedly saw the motorbiker injured on the road and then reported the incident to the police.
The court stated that the mistake of the victim did not absolve the suspect of responsibility, and subsequently convicted and sentenced him as previously mentioned.
