QUETTA: An official of the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of police was gunned down in Washuk Bazaar, police said on Sunday.

The victim, Israr Ahmed, who was a corporal in the CTD, was sitting at a shop when the assailant opened fire at him and fled. He sustained multiple wounds and was moved to the district hospital. Later, he was pronounced dead.

Police ruled out terrorism as a motive for the attack and said the CTD officer was gunned down over personal enmity.

The shooter has been identified as Masood Ahmed who used an automatic weapon. His brother, Khalid, has been picked up by the Kharan police.

The police also registered a case under various sections of the Pakistan Penal Code and the Balochistan Arms Act.

The victim’s body was later handed over to the family after completing medico-legal formalities.

Sources said the family members protested the killing and pelted stones at a police vehicle, smashing its windscreen.

Police said that efforts were underway to arrest the attacker.
