Dubai crowned the world’s most picturesque city at night

New research from Travelbag reveals the world’s most beautiful cities to experience after-dark. Dubai ranks as the prettiest city at night, boasting over 27,000 Instagram posts using the hashtag #Dubaiatnight

Taipei, Taiwan, is rated the safest city to explore at night (scoring 86.3 out of 100), whilst Hiroshima, Japan has the lowest light and noise pollution levels (20.8 out of 100).

Reykjavik is Europe’s prettiest city at night and has a high safety score of 72.1. 

As the sun sets and the stars emerge, many cities across the globe are illuminated by twinkling lights and bustling nightlife. But which global cities offer the most beautiful night views? 

New data from long-haul travel specialists, Travelbag reveals the most picturesque cities at night. Using a seed list of 136 of the world’s most popular cities, the top 10 cities to explore at night have been revealed by analysing Instagram hashtags, light and noise pollution levels and the safety of walking alone at night. 

Dubai is crowned the most picturesque long-haul destination at night, followed by Tokyo

Looking at long-haul destinations, Dubai ranks as the city offering the most beautiful nighttime views. There are over 27,387 Instagram posts tagged #Dubaiatnight, sharing the city’s scenic evening views. The city also ranks fourth for safety walking alone at night (83.4), meaning visitors can view the unparalleled beauty after dark whilst feeling safe. 

Only open in the evenings, visitors can head to the Dubai Glow Garden to see the illuminated immersive art installations. Or, head to the iconic Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building to see the bright lights of the city from a bird’s eye view. 

Following closely behind in second place is Tokyo, with over 17,167 posts on Instagram with the hashtag #tokyoatnight. The city also ranks in the top 15 for the lowest noise and light pollution levels (45.5), offering a great opportunity to experience the city’s allure at night. 

Muscat, Oman, ranks third, although the city has a low number of Instagram hashtags (132), Muscat has one of the lowest levels of noise and light pollution overall (29.9). Following closely behind are Singapore, Hiroshima, and Kyoto.
