FBR Reaches New Milestone as Registered Businesses in Pakistan Cross 12.5 Million

The number of registered businesses with FBR has crossed 12.5 million — a major step forward in Pakistan’s efforts to formalize its economy.

In just the past three years, over 5.3 million new business taxpayers have been added. This shows the positive results of recent tax reforms and the shift toward easier, digital registration processes. More businesses are now entering the formal economy, which helps improve tax collection and support national development.

Punjab leads the way with 8.2 million registered businesses, showing strong economic activity in the province. Sindh follows with 2.876 million businesses. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has 818,000, Islamabad has 467,000, and Balochistan has 221,000 businesses registered with the FBR.

This growth highlights better awareness and stronger engagement with the country’s tax system. The increase in registration means more businesses are coming under legal and financial rules, which can lead to better services, improved infrastructure, and a fairer system for all.

The government’s efforts to make tax registration easier—especially through digital platforms—have clearly paid off. These steps make it simpler for small and medium-sized businesses to register, reducing paperwork and delays.

Overall, this rise in registered businesses shows growing trust in the system and a move toward a more organized and responsible business environment in Pakistan. As more businesses join the formal economy, the country is likely to see further improvements in revenue, transparency, and investment opportunities.

The FBR’s success in increasing registrations is a sign that Pakistan is headed in the right direction when it comes to building a stable and modern economy that benefits both the government and its people.
