Mohsin Naqvi, the Chairman of PCB, held a press conference in Lahore on Thursday to address the ongoing speculation surrounding Babar Azam’s tenure as captain of the national cricket team.

Naqvi indicated that the PCB has opted to defer the decision-making process to Gary Kirsten, a distinguished former cricketer and head coach, regarding Azam’s future in leadership.

This strategic move underscores the PCB’s commitment to a comprehensive assessment of the team’s recent performance under Azam’s captaincy, particularly in light of the disappointing outcomes during the 2024 T20 World Cup.

Naqvi stressed that while discussions are underway, no definitive resolution has been reached concerning Azam’s captaincy. He acknowledged the substantial public scrutiny and critique following Pakistan’s underwhelming performance in the tournament, which has prompted a thorough evaluation of all aspects of team management and leadership.

The board’s approach highlights its meticulous consideration of various factors before arriving at a conclusive decision, ensuring transparency and accountability in managing the national cricket team’s future direction.
