This Eidul Azha, Pakistani cinemas are gearing up to offer a cinematic feast that rivals the grandest of Eid spreads. With a lineup of new releases set to hit the big screen, there’s no better time to make your Eid celebrations a family affair. Imagine wrapping up a day of overeating and family bonding by diving into the sensory adventure of cinema.

Unlike on Eidul Fitr, when only Daghabaaz Dil and Hum Tum Aur Wo graced the big screen, this time around you’ll have more options. It seems that Pakistani cinemas have learnt from their mistakes and are stepping up their game. From heart-pounding thrillers to side-splitting comedies and emotionally charged dramas, the silver screen seems to have new releases fit for everyone. So, gather your loved ones, head to your nearest theatre, grab that extra tub of popcorn and enjoy one – or more – of these Eidul Azha releases:

Umro Ayyar – A New Beginning

This Eid, Pakistan’s first superhero film swoops into theatres. This upcoming movie is a fantastical adaptation of the classical Urdu-Persian novel Hamzanama, bringing to life the legendary character Umro Ayyar, a master thief and formidable warrior from the mystical realm of Tilism-e-Hoshruba. The film’s trailer promises an epic tale of heroism and adventure that leaps off the pages of legend and onto the silver screen. Audiences may witness the birth of Pakistan’s very own superhero saga.

Starring the dynamic duo of Sanam Saeed and Usman Mukhtar, the film also boasts a star-studded ensemble cast that reads like a who’s who of Pakistani cinema. Look out for dazzling performances from luminaries such as Faran Tahir, Ali Kazmi, Adnan Siddiqui, Simi Raheal, Sana Fakhar, Manzar Sehbai, Daniyal Raheal, and Salmaan Shaukat. The talent parade doesn’t stop there, with Osama Karamat, Uloomi Karim, Asad Chaudhary, Atif Rehan Siddique, Muhammad Imran, Bilal Jutt, Ruman Ali, and Shehroz Sanaullah rounding out the cast.

Na Baligh Afraad

Comedy lovers, get ready to mark your calendars for this festive season just got a whole lot funnier. Renowned screenwriter and director Nabeel Qureshi, celebrated for his knack for blending humour with social commentary in hits like Actor in Law and Load Wedding, is releasing his brand-new film, Na Baligh Afraad. Prepare for belly laughs and thought-provoking moments as Qureshi takes us on another cinematic joyride.

The film marks the highly anticipated cinematic debut of Samar Jafri, who previously won hearts with his performance in Mayi Ri as a teenager thrust into child marriage. The film also features Aashir Wajahat, Ehteshamuddin, Saleem Mairaj, Faiza Hasan, Irfan Motiwala, Aadi Adeal Amjad, Arzu Fatima, Rimha Ahmed, and others.

Abhi

We’ve got action and comedy covered, now it’s time to turn up the romance. Abhi stars Kubra Khan and musician Goher Mumtaz in lead roles. Directed by Asad Mumtaz Malik, the film’s initial teaser dropped back in 2022, but after some delays, it’s finally hitting theatres this Eid.

Get ready for a rollercoaster of emotions as Abhi weaves together romance, drama and action, guaranteed to bring on the tears – so don’t forget your tissues. The teaser has already assured us that potential audiences won’t be disappointed with the visuals, filmed in the breathtaking northern areas of Pakistan, including the scenic beauty of Kashmir. In addition to Khan and Mumtaz, the film’s cast includes Adnan Shah Tipu, Marhoom Ahmed Bilal, Irfan Motiwala, Zaryab Haider, Qaiser Shahzad and Waseem Ali.
