Game Changer! Pakistan Now Officially Connected to One of the World’s Fastest Undersea Cables

Pakistan has reached an important digital milestone by officially connecting to the SEA-ME-WE 6 submarine cable. .

This is the country’s third new international cable system added within just one year. Federal IT and Telecom Minister Shaza Fatima shared the news and said that this step will greatly improve Pakistan’s global connectivity and internet strength.

Before this, Pakistan connected to the Africa-1 and 2Africa cable systems. Adding SEA-ME-WE 6 makes this one of the fastest periods of growth in Pakistan’s underwater cable network.

The landing partner for this project, Transworld Associates (TWA), will start by adding 4 Tbps of new capacity. This alone increases Pakistan’s current bandwidth of 13.2 Tbps by almost 40%, which means faster and more reliable internet for users in the future.

The SEA-ME-WE 6 cable is 21,700 km long and links Pakistan to many important regions, starting from Singapore and stretching all the way to France.

It has a total design capacity of 132 Tbps, making it one of the high-capacity systems in the region. This connection helps Pakistan strengthen its digital backbone and positions the country for future technology growth.

Along with this project, TWA is also building a Tier III certified data centre in Karachi. This data centre will support AI-related work and will connect with multiple international subsea systems.

It is planned to be operational by January 2026. Once completed, it will further enhance Pakistan’s digital infrastructure, make data processing faster, and support the country’s growing tech industry.
