Major General (Retired) Dr. Ghulam Qamar has been appointed as the Director General of Religious Education (DGRE) for a three-year term starting November 18, 2024. The appointment was approved by the Prime Minister and is seen as an important step in improving and modernizing religious education in Pakistan.

Dr. Qamar has extensive experience in this field, having previously served as the Project Director for DGRE. In that role, he played a significant part in bringing reforms to religious education across the country. His efforts have focused on aligning religious seminaries (madrassahs) with the broader national education system, ensuring that students receive both religious and modern education.

This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to integrating madrassahs into the mainstream education framework. By modernizing these institutions, Pakistan aims to strengthen its overall education system and provide more opportunities for students in religious schools to succeed in various fields. Dr. Qamar’s leadership is expected to drive further positive changes in this important area.
