Karachi’s drivers are rushing to get the new Ajrak design number plates as the traffic police crack down on vehicles without them. The move is part of the Safe City Project, which aims to make Karachi safer with better vehicle tracking and security checks.
Sindh’s Excise and Taxation Minister, Mukesh Kumar Chawla, says these plates are very important for safety. The new plates come with threads in the background, 3D holograms, barcodes, and can be read by CCTV cameras even at night. Unlike plates made in local markets, these special plates help the police trace vehicles easily.
- There are three types of plates:
- White for private vehicles and bikes
- Yellow for commercial vehicles
- Green for government vehicles
The fee is Rs. 2,450 for cars and other four-wheelers, and Rs. 1,850 for bikes. Trucks and dumpers can also get registered.

- Enter your mobile number and registration number (make sure your tax is clear)
- Fill in the captcha code
- Click on Vehicle Details
- Select the nearest branch
- Click Calculate Amount
- Click Deliver challan to me via courier
- Add your address and name
- Generate PSID (fee for the plate plus Rs100 for courier)
- You’ll get a 12-digit PSID (also sent by SMS)
- Pay at the bank, through EasyPaisa, ATM, or online banking
- Submit your request and follow instructions
- Wait about three months for your new plates
- When notified, collect your new plates from the Excise Office (like Civic Centre Karachi) and return the old ones
