Historic First! Pakistani Students Develop Ablution (Wudu) Water Recycling System to Save Water

Students from Aligarh Institute of Technology (AIT) have developed Pakistan’s first water recycling system for ablution (wuzu), named “Nahr Al Khair.” This innovative system has been installed at Jamia Masjid Ali, located in the Buffer Zone area of Karachi. The main goal of the project is to save water and help solve environmental problems faced by local communities.

The system works by collecting used water from ablution areas and passing it through a three-step filtration process. This process uses natural materials such as stones, gravel, and charcoal to clean the water. Once the water is filtered and purified, it is absorbed back into the ground. This not only prevents wastage but also helps refill underground water sources, which are becoming increasingly scarce in many parts of the country.

The project was led by Engineer Syed Muhammad Saad along with a group of dedicated students. Together, they wanted to create a practical solution that encourages water conservation and raises public awareness about the importance of protecting the environment. Their work is an example of how young minds in Pakistan are stepping up to create sustainable solutions for everyday challenges.
