Historic Move! Pakistan Approves First Ferry Licence to Iran, Gulf States

Pakistan’s Ministry of Maritime Affairs has approved the country’s first-ever international ferry service licence, marking a major milestone in the nation’s maritime sector.

The licence has been awarded to Sea Keepers, allowing the company to operate ferry routes between Pakistan, Iran, and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.

The decision was made during a high-level meeting of the Licensing Committee, which included officials from the Ministries of Maritime Affairs, Defence, Foreign Affairs, and Interior, alongside key representatives from the shipping industry.

This initiative aims to strengthen regional connectivity and provide a cost-effective alternative to air travel. The ferry service is expected to greatly benefit overseas workers, religious pilgrims, and other travellers who frequently visit Gulf countries, making their journeys more affordable and accessible.

Government officials believe the move will reduce the burden on airlines, promote sea-based transportation, and help modernize Pakistan’s maritime infrastructure. It also reflects a broader vision to create more trade opportunities and strengthen ties with neighbouring countries through safe, efficient sea routes.

The approval granted to Sea Keepers marks the beginning of a new era in Pakistan’s transport sector. More ferry services are expected to follow, benefiting both individual passengers and businesses engaged in regional trade.
