How inDrive Has Made Commute More Affordable and Convenient in Pakistan

Getting around cities like Karachi or Lahore isn’t easy – congested roads, unreliable public transport, and rising fuel costs have made daily commutes frustrating and expensive. But inDrive is quietly changing that, offering a people-first alternative rooted in affordability, transparency, and control.

Launched in Pakistan in 2021, inDrive has quickly grown to operate in over 20 cities, making it one of the fastest-growing ride-hailing platforms in the country.

Unlike traditional ride-hailing services that use fixed or surge-based pricing, inDrive flips the model: passengers propose their own fares. Drivers can accept, decline, or negotiate — a system that puts people, not algorithms, in charge.

This flexible model has struck a chord with both passengers and drivers, regardless of whether they use bikes, cars, or rickshaws.

For passengers, this means greater control over the price. For drivers, it provides the freedom to prioritise rides based on fuel costs, traffic conditions, and overall feasibility, enabling empowered decision-making on both ends.

inDrive also offers one of the lowest commission rates in the industry, allowing drivers to retain a greater share of their earnings and reflects the platform’s broader focus on empowerment and transparency.

And the results speak for themselves. According to Sensor Tower, a leading market intelligence firm, inDrive was the second-most downloaded ride-hailing app globally for the third consecutive year. In December 2024 alone, it saw over 6.1 million downloads. In Pakistan, too, it has surpassed its competitors, becoming the most widely used mobility platform.

Beyond pricing, inDrive streamlines driver onboarding through real-time document verification, including CNIC checks, driver’s license authentication, and identity verification, helping to filter out suspicious profiles.

Passenger safety is built in. The app features an in-app emergency button to contact authorities, phone number masking, emergency contacts, and a feature that allows you to contact your driver within 24 hours if you forget something during your trip — a common issue reported by users.

By blending innovative technology with a human-centred approach, inDrive offers a service that’s built on trust and affordability. As Pakistan’s need for urban mobility grows, platforms like inDrive are playing a crucial role in shaping the future of transport.
