Amid growing political tensions between India and Pakistan, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is considering alternative host options for its upcoming global tournaments. According to a report by The Sydney Morning Herald, Australia could step in as a replacement host if needed. The tournaments under discussion include the ICC Champions Trophy 2029 and the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2031. Bangladesh is still being mentioned as a possible co-host for the 2031 event.
There is also uncertainty surrounding the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which is currently scheduled to be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. Due to the political situation in the region, officials are concerned about potential disruptions, including travel, security, and diplomatic challenges that could affect participating teams.
Reports suggest that after discussions with the Pakistan Cricket Board and the Bangladesh Cricket Board, Pakistan decided to continue participating in order to avoid significant financial losses and maintain its presence in major international events. Cricket administrators are now preparing backup plans to ensure that global tournaments run smoothly, even if political issues create complications. The main goal is to protect the stability of international cricket and avoid last-minute disruptions to major competitions.
