India Bans Online G@mbling as Users Losses $2.3 Billion on Apps

India has introduced a historic law to stop online gambling after reports revealed that around 450 million people were losing nearly $2.3 billion every year on such platforms.

The new law, known as the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, makes it illegal to run, promote, or fund gambling apps. Anyone found guilty can face heavy penalties, including up to five years in prison.

This decision comes after growing concerns about the impact of online gambling on individuals and families. Many people were losing large sums of money on apps offering games like poker, card games, and fantasy sports. Cricket-related fantasy apps, which had gained massive popularity, are also included in the ban.

The government has stated that the move is not just about restricting gambling but also about protecting citizens from financial and social harm. Gambling addiction has been linked to rising debt, stress, and family issues, making it a serious concern across the country.

The new bill also opens the door for better regulation of online games. While gambling apps are banned, the law leaves room for safe and skill-based gaming platforms to operate under strict guidelines. Authorities believe this will help create a healthier digital gaming environment.

With this step, India has taken a strong stand against online gambling, sending a clear message about its commitment to public welfare and responsible gaming. The decision is expected to bring relief to millions of families while reshaping the future of the online gaming industry.
