Residents of Budgam in Jammu and Kashmir have started donating gold, silver, and cash to show support for people affected by the ongoing Gulf crisis. The drive began recently after tensions in West Asia rose sharply, involving conflicts that have drawn global attention.
Locals set up donation points at community centres and mosques, including at Masjid Imam Zaman, where men, women, and children brought valuable items and money for the cause.
Many people said they wanted to help civilians in Iran, as they could not travel there themselves to offer aid. Women in the community gave up personal jewellery like earrings and gold ornaments.
Children also contributed by emptying their piggy banks and offering toys or small savings. Some families even donated copper utensils and other household valuables.
The donation drive reflects a deep emotional connection felt by many in Budgam with people going through hardship in the Gulf region. Videos and images shared on social media show long lines of residents placing their contributions together.
The effort has attracted attention beyond the region, as it highlights how local communities respond to global crises with acts of solidarity and care.
Officials from the Iranian embassy in India have expressed thanks for these contributions, saying that the support and kindness shown by Kashmir residents will not be forgotten.
