Jinnah Stadium Floodlights Don’t Meet FIFA Specifications

The Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) has informed the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) that the floodlights at Jinnah Stadium in Islamabad are not up to the standards set by FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). This information came after PFF conducted inspections on May 3 and May 18, revealing that the lighting is insufficient for international matches.

Due to these inadequate conditions, the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifier against Saudi Arabia, scheduled for June 6, might need to be moved to a different location. To avoid this, the PFF has urgently requested the PSB to make the necessary improvements to the stadium’s floodlights. They need to ensure that these upgrades are completed quickly and then inform FIFA and AFC that the stadium meets the required standards.

Pakistan’s football team is currently at the bottom of Group G. They have important matches coming up, not only against Saudi Arabia but also against Tajikistan in early June. Having the matches in a properly equipped stadium is crucial for the team as they aim to improve their standings.

The PFF’s call for immediate action underscores the importance of maintaining high standards for sports facilities in Pakistan. Upgrading the floodlights at Jinnah Stadium will ensure that the players can perform under the best possible conditions and that the stadium remains a viable venue for international competitions. This effort will also reflect positively on Pakistan’s ability to host significant sporting events, encouraging future international matches to be held in the country.
