Lieutenant General Muhammad Ali has officially taken over the position of Secretary of Defense, after being appointed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif last week. His term will continue until December 31, 2026. He replaces Lieutenant General (Retired) Hamood-ul-Zaman, whose time in the role ended in August.

To ensure a smooth transition for General Ali, Major General Aamer Ashfaq Kiyani, who was serving as the Acting Secretary, has stepped down from his temporary post. General Muhammad Ali brings a wealth of experience from his extensive military career, which is expected to strengthen the leadership of the Ministry of Defense. His expertise comes at a critical time when the country’s national security and military strategies are of high importance.

The defense community has responded positively to General Ali’s appointment, viewing it as a step forward for Pakistan’s defense sector. Many believe his leadership will bring new energy and direction to the Ministry, guiding it through this important phase in the country’s security efforts.

As he takes on this crucial role, General Ali is expected to focus on strengthening the country’s defense capabilities, ensuring a solid military strategy, and enhancing national security. His background in the military positions him well to handle the challenges ahead, and there is optimism about the future under his leadership.
