On March 22, 2025, Pakistan marked Earth Hour by turning off lights at major government buildings and landmarks to raise awareness about saving energy and water. The symbolic act, observed from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM, highlighted the importance of protecting the environment.

In Islamabad, significant buildings such as the Parliament House, President’s Office, Prime Minister’s House, and the Supreme Court participated by switching off non-essential lights. Other landmarks, including the Islamabad High Court, D-Chowk, Pak-China Friendship Center, Convention Center, and Jinnah Avenue, also joined the global movement.

Karachi also showed its support, with the lights of historic sites like the Mohatta Palace and the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) building turned off. In Lahore, landmarks including the Punjab Assembly, Alhamra Arts Council, WAPDA House, and the iconic Shalimar Bagh participated by dimming their lights.

Earth Hour is a global initiative organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). Every year, people and organizations around the world switch off lights for one hour to show their commitment to tackling climate change and conserving natural resources. By participating in this event, Pakistan emphasized the need to reduce energy consumption and adopt sustainable practices.

The event also served as a reminder of the importance of water conservation, especially in a country like Pakistan, which faces growing water scarcity. Citizens were encouraged to make small changes in their daily lives, such as using energy-efficient appliances and reducing water wastage.

Earth Hour 2025 brought communities together, showcasing Pakistan’s dedication to building a greener and more sustainable future. Through collective action, the country reaffirmed its commitment to environmental responsibility.
