QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti has announced the provision of interest-free loans to promote dignified employment opportunities for persons with disabilities (PWDs), enabling them to achieve economic self-sufficiency.
He made the announcement while chairing the second meeting of the Provincial Council of the “Komak Support Fund” for Persons with Disabilities at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.
The meeting was attended by Parliamentary Secretary for Social Welfare Haji Wali Muhammad Noorzai, Chief Secretary Balochistan Shakeel Qadir Khan, and representatives of organisations working for persons with disabilities, who were especially invited.
CM Bugti directs authorities to ensure immediate, effective implementation for tangible results
The council decided to further expand the ongoing welfare programme for persons with disabilities in Balochistan and ensure its effective and transparent implementation. The CM directed that monthly financial assistance for PWDs be significantly increased to help them lead dignified lives.
Approval was also granted for the immediate procurement of special equipment, electric wheelchairs and other assistive devices to ensure timely support for those in need.
Mr Bugti said that under the “Komak Endowment Fund,” the journey from disability to self-reliance would be placed on solid foundations.
He also announced that educational assistance and scholarships for students with disabilities — from matriculation to PhD level — would be ensured to provide equal access to higher education. He further directed the promotion of technical and vocational training programmes, the provision of skills development opportunities, and the supply of mobility aids to enable persons with disabilities to actively participate in practical life.
The CM instructed the relevant authorities to ensure the immediate and effective implementation of the decisions so that tangible results of the welfare measures can be achieved across the province at the earliest.
