The Dubai Court of Appeal upheld a three-year prison sentence, a fine of Dhs50,000 and deportation for an Asian man who stabbed the manager of an entertainment store.
Asian stabbed the manager after the latter discovered that the convict had used an electronic programme to cheat and increase his profit while using the entertaining devices in the store.
In May 2022, an owner of an entertainment store located in Dubai Investment Park reported that the store manager had been stabbed by a customer.
The accused was seen fleeing the scene with a knife stained with blood.
The security guard tried to catch the suspect, who stabbed him and ran away. Customers caught him and held him until the police arrived.
The victim was taken to hospital with stab wounds to the neck and abdomen.
The victim said the accused used an electronic programme to cheat and fraudulently increase the number of points collected from electronic entertainment devices and then convert them into money he received from the store.
“Surveillance cameras recorded his fraudulent operations,” he added.
He told the accused he would inform the police, but the latter stabbed him in the neck and stomach and fled. His colleagues tried to stop the bleeding, inform the police and call an ambulance.
The shopkeeper said the accused tried to stab him with a knife as soon as he came out of the store manager’s room. He chased him and caught him.
The accused said he didn’t intend to kill the victim and that he attacked him to escape. He was afraid of being arrested and imprisoned after his scam was discovered.
He was referred to the Dubai Public Prosecution and then to the court, which ruled against him. The Court of Appeal upheld the ruling.
