The remains of a 16th-century Mughal-era structure located in Rehara village on the outskirts of Islamabad have reportedly been demolished to clear land for a private housing development. The site, believed by experts to date back to the reign of Emperor Akbar, represented a significant yet lesser-known piece of the region’s historical legacy.

According to available details, the structure featured a main chamber measuring approximately 8 by 4.5 meters, constructed with thick limestone and sandstone walls — architectural elements commonly associated with Mughal-era construction. Historians suggested that the building may have served as a rest stop, administrative outpost, or small residential complex during the Mughal period, reflecting the empire’s architectural influence in the region.

Officials from the Department of Archaeology and Museums (DOAM) had reportedly made repeated attempts to obtain land and development records from the Capital Development Authority (CDA) in an effort to safeguard the site. However, despite formal requests and correspondence, the department did not receive the necessary documentation or cooperation to initiate preservation measures before the demolition took place
