The flood situation in southern Punjab has become more alarming, with Multan and Muzaffargarh placed on high alert after a breach in the Sidhnai Canal increased water flow in the region.

The situation is being made worse by the swollen Ravi and Chenab rivers, which have now converged near Khanewal.

According to authorities, the next 12 hours will be extremely critical. At Muhammadwala and Sher Shah, water levels are only five feet below the official danger mark.

Officials are considering creating controlled breaches at around 17 points to reduce pressure on major cities and protect densely populated areas.

The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reported that more than 3.7 million people across the province have been affected by the ongoing floods.

So far, at least 46 lives have been lost, while thousands of families have been displaced, with many losing their homes, crops, and livestock.

Rescue teams, along with the military, are working around the clock to provide relief, evacuate stranded families, and set up temporary shelters.

Medical camps, food supplies, and clean water are being distributed in flood-hit areas, but access remains a challenge due to damaged roads and infrastructure.

Adding to the concern, PDMA officials warned that Indian dams are close to reaching full capacity. If more water is released, Punjab could face another surge of floods within the next few days. A massive rise in water levels is expected to hit Multan by Friday, raising fears of further destruction in the region.
