The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has announced that it recovered almost Rs9 trillion in the past two years. Most of this amount is not cash but land and property that was taken back from illegal possession. These recoveries increased after NAB’s legal powers were revised in 2022.

According to officials, NAB had recovered a total of $3.15 billion from 1999 up to early 2023. But after March 2023, the total jumped to $29.99 billion. Only a small part of this is actual money, while the rest includes land, buildings, and other assets that were returned to government control.

The NAB chairman explained that the organisation has received Rs62 billion in government funding over the past 26 years. He said that new reforms and better procedures have made the system more efficient, improved trust among officials, and helped speed up investigations and accountability work.
