The School Education Department has officially announced that academic activities in Lahore will resume from August 18, 2025, marking the end of the summer vacation period for students and educational institutions in the provincial capital.

While schools across Lahore will open briefly on August 14 to mark the celebrations for Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day, no regular classes will be conducted on that day. The day will be dedicated solely to national festivities and flag-hoisting ceremonies, as per the department’s directive.

Officials have issued strict instructions that no school, whether public or private, is allowed to reopen before August 14. This measure is aimed at ensuring uniformity and proper observance of the designated summer break timeline.

In a related development, the Punjab government has declared a public holiday on August 15 in observance of Chehlum and the annual Urs of Hazrat Data Ganj Bakhsh (RA), events that hold significant religious and cultural importance for the city’s residents. This will be followed by the regular weekend holidays on August 16 and 17 (Saturday and Sunday), extending the break slightly before academic sessions fully resume.

Starting from Monday, August 18, all schools in Lahore will operate under a new post-summer schedule. According to the updated timings issued by the School Education Department, schools will now begin at 7:30 AM and continue until 1:30 PM, in line with efforts to optimize academic hours while also accommodating the seasonal weather conditions.

This announcement is expected to bring clarity and consistency to educational institutions, parents, and students who have been awaiting confirmation of the reopening schedule.

School administrators have also been advised to ensure readiness for the return of students, including implementing safety protocols, conducting necessary maintenance, and preparing lesson plans to bridge the learning gap post-vacation.

The announcement comes as Lahore prepares for a busy August, filled with religious observances, national celebrations, and now, a return to classroom routines.
