Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) has announced another important gas discovery in the Kohat district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, marking the second such find in just two days. This latest discovery has come from the exploratory well named Bilitang-1, which is part of the TAL Block.
According to the details shared, the well is currently producing around 1.58 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMscfd). The gas has been found in the Hangu and Lumshiwal formations, which are known for their hydrocarbon potential.
This result is being seen as a positive development for Pakistan’s energy sector, especially at a time when the country is facing ongoing energy challenges.
The TAL Block is being operated under a joint venture that includes several major energy companies. These include MOL Pakistan Oil & Gas, Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL), and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL). The collaboration highlights strong coordination among both local and international energy players.
Drilling at the Bilitang-1 well began in August 2025 and continued until it reached a depth of 4,011 metres. The successful outcome of this drilling effort not only adds to Pakistan’s domestic gas reserves but also reduces reliance on imported energy resources.
This new discovery is expected to strengthen Pakistan’s energy security, support economic stability, and encourage further exploration activities in the region. It also shows the untapped potential of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa as an important area for future oil and gas development.
