New Motorway Speed Rules Announced with Fines for Violators

The National Highways & Motorway Police (NHMP) has introduced new speed regulations to improve road safety and prevent accidents. Under the updated policy, vehicles exceeding 150 km/h on motorways will face strict penalties, including fines and legal action.

The revised speed limits specify that cars on three-lane motorways must not exceed 120 km/h, while public transport vehicles, such as buses and vans, have a maximum limit of 110 km/h. This move is part of a broader campaign initiated by Inspector General Riffat Mukhtar Raja to curb reckless driving and promote responsible road behavior.

To ensure effective enforcement, authorities will enhance speed monitoring on highways and motorways.

Additionally, improvements such as safety barriers and fencing will be implemented to minimize accident risks. The NHMP has emphasized that road safety remains a top priority, and strict action will be taken against those violating the rules.

In a separate development, the National Highway Authority (NHA) has introduced a digital toll system, making M-Tag registration mandatory for all vehicles.

Since February 1, 2025, vehicles without an M-Tag or those with insufficient balance must pay 25% extra in toll charges, with a minimum surcharge of Rs. 50. This initiative aims to streamline toll collection, reduce cash transactions, and ensure smoother traffic flow.

With these new regulations, authorities hope to make Pakistan’s highways safer for all travelers by discouraging over speeding and improving road management.
