ISLAMABAD: The National Logistics Corporation (NLC) has installed state-of-the-art scanning systems at key border terminals to enhance cargo security and expedite clearance procedures to facilitate cross-border trade with China and Iran.

The advanced scanners have been deployed at the Sost Dry Port on the Pakistan-China border and at the Gabd Border Terminal along the Pakistan-Iran frontier. Capable of scanning vehicles in just 22 seconds, the new systems are expected to significantly reduce clearance times and ease congestion at major trade corridors.

Officials said the installation of modern scanners will sharply cut waiting periods for containers, leading to faster movement of goods and a marked improvement in overall trade performance at these strategic crossings.

Equipped with artificial intelligence, the scanners can conduct detailed analysis of cargo composition with accurate code identification, improving risk profiling and detection capabilities. Each scan generates digital data that enhances transparency in trade processes, while reduced human intervention during inspections is expected to make legitimate trade faster and more efficient.

With trade volumes steadily increasing with both China and Iran, the development is being viewed as a timely and critical upgrade. The initiative is expected to play a significant role in promoting border trade and strengthening regional connectivity.
