No New Petrol Price Hike Announced, Clarifies Finance Ministry

The Ministry of Finance has clarified that Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb did not announce any new increases in petrol or diesel prices. His remarks in the Senate were intended to brief lawmakers on rising global oil prices and their potential impact on Pakistan, not to declare domestic fuel hikes.

Recent reports suggesting further fuel price increases in Pakistan are incorrect and misleading, the ministry emphasized.

At present, petrol costs Rs. 321.17 per litre following a recent Rs. 55 rise, while diesel is priced at Rs335.86 per litre. These rates reflect earlier adjustments and have not changed further as of now.

During the Senate briefing, Aurangzeb explained that Pakistan is facing significant pressures in global energy markets, including higher crude oil prices and challenges in liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports.

He also highlighted the risk of potential urea plant closures, which could affect the agriculture sector and fertilizer availability.

The government is carefully monitoring the situation, keeping an eye on international fuel costs, currency fluctuations, and domestic supply constraints. Authorities are evaluating multiple options to manage the impact without immediately increasing domestic fuel prices.

Officials reassured the public that no immediate hike in petrol or diesel prices is planned and that any future decisions will be communicated officially.

Meanwhile, the government continues to explore measures to stabilize the energy market, support critical sectors, and limit inflationary effects on consumers.

The clarification aims to prevent confusion and ensure that citizens rely on official statements rather than unverified news about fuel prices.
