Oman is becoming an increasingly popular destination for skilled workers in 2026. With tax-free salaries, a safe environment, and growing industries like construction, healthcare, IT, logistics, and oil & gas, expatriates from Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and the Philippines are seeking employment opportunities in the country. A work visa is essential to legally live and work in Oman, and this guide explains eligibility, required documents, and the application process.

What Is an Oman Work Visa?

An Oman work visa is a legal permit issued by the Royal Oman Police (ROP) and the Ministry of Labour. It allows foreign nationals to work for a specific employer in Oman. The visa is employer-specific, meaning workers cannot change jobs without canceling the current visa and applying for a new one. Typically, the visa is valid for two years, aligning with the employment contract.

Who Can Apply? Eligibility Criteria for 2026

Applicants must meet the following conditions:

  • Age between 21 and 60 years.
  • Confirmed job offer from a licensed Omani company.
  • Occupation approved by the Ministry of Labour.
  • Clean criminal record with a police clearance certificate.
  • Medical fitness clearance from recognized centers.
  • Employer must obtain labour clearance before visa issuance.

Documents Needed for Oman Work Visa

Before applying, the following documents must be ready:

  • Valid passport with at least six months’ validity.
  • Employment contract signed by employer and employee.
  • Passport-sized photographs with white background.
  • Ministry of Labour-issued labour license.
  • Medical fitness certificate.
  • Attested educational certificates.
  • Police clearance from home country.
  • Employer’s commercial registration documents.

Step-by-Step Application Process

  1. Job Confirmation: Receive a confirmed employment offer and contract from an Omani employer.
  2. Labour Clearance: Employer applies for labour approval from the Ministry of Labour.
  3. Document Preparation: Gather all required documents and ensure proper attestation.
  4. Visa Submission: Employer submits the visa application to ROP or via the eVisa portal.
  5. Medical Examination: Applicant undergoes medical tests at approved centers.
  6. Travel to Oman: With visa approval, the employee can travel to Oman.
  7. Resident Card Registration: Apply for a resident card (Omani ID) within 30 days of arrival.
  8. Start Work: Begin employment under the sponsor company in compliance with Oman Labour Law.

Visa Fees and Duration

The cost of a standard work visa ranges from 20–50 OMR (approximately PKR 15,000–38,000), depending on the type of employment. Temporary and specialized work visas have different fees and validity periods. Most work visas last for two years and can be renewed before expiry.

Important Tips for Expats

  • Always verify the employer’s registration to avoid scams.
  • Keep copies of all official documents, including your employment contract and resident card.
  • Changing jobs requires canceling your current visa.
  • Overstaying or working illegally can result in fines, deportation, or legal penalties.
  • Applicants from Pakistan must get POE clearance before traveling.

Oman remains a top choice for expatriates seeking career growth, financial benefits, and a safe working environment. By following the correct procedures and preparing the required documents, foreign workers can smoothly secure an Oman work visa in 2026.
