Pakistan has made big progress in making mobile phones locally. In the first five months of 2025, the country assembled around 12.05 million mobile phones, which was enough to meet 94% of the nation’s total demand. This information was shared by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).

This is a major improvement compared to past years. From 2020 to 2024, local production met about 77% of the country’s mobile phone needs, and from 2016 to 2024, the average was only 52%. Now, with almost all demand being met through local assembly, Pakistan is moving closer to becoming more self-reliant in the tech sector.

During this time, imports of mobile phones stayed very low, with only 0.76 million units brought in from other countries. This shows how much the local industry has grown and how it is now capable of producing large numbers of handsets on its own.

Out of the total locally assembled phones, 6.53 million were 2G feature phones, while 5.52 million were smartphones. This means more people in Pakistan are now able to access smartphones, which can help improve digital access, communication, and business opportunities across the country.

Some of the main mobile phone brands being assembled in Pakistan include Infinix, VGO Tel, Itel, Vivo, Samsung, and Xiaomi. These brands are helping make a variety of mobile phones available at different prices, giving consumers more options.

The PTA also shared an update about customer service. In May 2025 alone, over 10,000 complaints were received from users regarding telecom services. However, the good news is that 97.92% of these complaints were resolved quickly, showing strong performance by the PTA in handling consumer issues.

Overall, these developments show that Pakistan’s mobile phone manufacturing industry is growing fast and making a big difference. By reducing reliance on imports and encouraging local production, the country is creating new job opportunities, supporting the economy, and helping more people get connected through affordable technology.
