Pakistan Railways Begins Local Manufacturing of Train Coaches

Pakistan Railways has started producing new train coaches locally after successfully learning the required technology from China. This marks a significant step forward in modernizing the railway system and reducing dependence on imports. The manufacturing of high-speed passenger coaches and goods wagons is now taking place at workshops located in Lahore and Islamabad.

Chinese experts have been instrumental in this process, working closely with Pakistan Railways’ engineers and technicians to build their skills and expertise. By transferring advanced knowledge and techniques, these experts have helped local teams gain the ability to produce modern railway components domestically.

Over the next three years, the Pakistan Railways Carriage Factory in Islamabad plans to assemble 184 new passenger coaches. These coaches will meet international standards, offering improved comfort and efficiency for travelers.

This effort is part of a larger infrastructure development plan under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). One of the key projects under this initiative is the upgrade of the Main Line-1 (ML-1) railway track, which is essential for boosting Pakistan’s transportation network and enhancing its economic connectivity with the region. These developments are expected to play a vital role in strengthening the country’s trade, mobility, and overall economic growth.
