Pakistan Railways has achieved a major milestone by saving more than Rs. 1 billion in electricity costs over the last eight months. This success comes from two key efforts: shifting its system towards solar energy and taking strict action against electricity theft.

The achievement was shared during a meeting led by Federal Minister for Railways, Muhammad Hanif Abbasi. He said that the reforms taken by the department are now showing clear results, and these savings will directly benefit the overall financial health of Pakistan Railways.

Among different divisions, the Lahore Division stood out by recording the highest savings of Rs416.6 million. Mughalpura came next with savings of Rs243 million.

Other divisions such as Rawalpindi, Quetta, Karachi, Sukkur, Multan, and Peshawar also played an important role by cutting costs and contributing to the overall achievement.

The minister praised the efforts of the teams across the country for taking these initiatives seriously. He stressed that electricity theft will not be tolerated under any circumstances. Strict action will be taken against anyone involved, as the government has adopted a clear zero-tolerance policy on this issue.

This step is being seen as a major reform in the railway sector, proving that strong planning and effective implementation can lead to real financial improvement.
