The ban on lab testing for exporting oranges to Malaysia has been lifted, giving a significant boost to trade. This announcement was made by Khawaja Yasir Qayyum, President of the Sargodha Chamber of Commerce.

The issue arose after Malaysia’s Ministry of Health implemented an advisory in November 2024, requiring orange shipments to undergo inspections at Malaysian ports, which temporarily disrupted exports.

Khawaja Yasir Qayyum explained that he addressed this matter with the Malaysian Ambassador during Malaysia’s Independence Day celebrations. Following this, a productive meeting took place with Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Commerce, Mr. Jam Kamal Khan. As a result, the inspection requirement was removed, simplifying the export process.

He also acknowledged the efforts of Ms. Tahira Javed, the Trade and Investment Counselor at Pakistan’s High Commission in Malaysia, for her active role in resolving the issue.

Her involvement, along with collaborative efforts, has helped reopen opportunities for orange exports to Malaysia.

This development is expected to boost Pakistan’s orange exports significantly, strengthening trade ties between the two countries. It marks a positive step for citrus exporters and showcases the impact of diplomatic and trade efforts in overcoming export barriers.
