Pakistan is getting ready to strengthen its air defense system by planning to bring in China’s advanced HQ-19 ballistic missile defense system in early 2026.

The HQ-19 is a modern defense system that works in a similar way to the United States’ THAAD system. It is designed to detect and intercept incoming threats from a very long distance, with a reported interception range of more than 1,000 kilometers. The system can target different types of missiles, including ballistic missiles, hypersonic missiles, and cruise missiles, making it a powerful tool for national defense.

This system has been developed by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation. One of its key features is its ability to intercept missiles outside the Earth’s atmosphere using “hit-to-kill” technology, which means it destroys targets by directly colliding with them rather than using explosives.

The HQ-19 is also equipped with an advanced radar system that helps it track targets accurately over long distances. It has high maneuverability, allowing it to respond quickly to fast-moving threats. In addition, it can engage multiple targets at the same time, which improves its effectiveness in complex combat situations.

Overall, the planned induction of the HQ-19 is seen as a major step toward improving Pakistan’s defensive capabilities and protecting its airspace against modern missile threats.
