Pakistan Suspends Mail Services to the US Amid Tariff Increase
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterWhatsapp

Pakistan has temporarily stopped sending mail to the United States after the US introduced new tariffs and duties on postal shipments. This suspension applies to all types of postal communications, including letters, parcels, and packages.

The Pakistan Post took this step due to concerns that mails sent under the new rules may be returned or rejected.

The change follows the US decision to remove the previous duty-free facility for incoming mail, which was governed by Executive Order 14324. This update affects postal services globally and has forced several countries to review their mail operations with the US.

Other countries, including China, the United Kingdom, India, and Australia, have also paused their mail deliveries to the United States as a precaution.

Postal authorities in these countries are concerned that sending mail under the new tariff rules could lead to losses and complications for both senders and recipients.

Efforts are ongoing to resolve the issue through international channels, particularly the Universal Postal Union (UPU). Pakistani authorities are in contact with the UPU and US postal services to find a solution that will allow mail deliveries to resume safely and efficiently.

The temporary halt aims to protect both Pakistani businesses and individuals from unexpected costs or returned shipments while the situation is clarified.

Officials have assured the public that normal mail services will be restored once a resolution is reached, ensuring smooth and cost-effective postal communications between Pakistan and the United States.
