Pakistani leg-spinner Abrar Ahmed has been signed by the Indian-owned team Sunrisers Leeds for Rs. 63.65 Million in The Hundred auction. This comes despite earlier concerns that Pakistani players might be ignored in the tournament.
Sunrisers Leeds confirmed the signing after a competitive bidding process, where the team initially offered Rs. 63.65 Million and later increased their bid to secure him amid interest from another franchise, Trent Rockets.
Abrar Ahmed has been a promising talent for Pakistan in T20 cricket. Since 2024, he has played 38 T20 matches, taking 52 wickets at an impressive economy rate of 6.67. His leg-spin has been praised for being both economical and wicket-taking, making him a valuable player for any team in short-format cricket.
The Hundred is a 100-ball cricket tournament in England and Wales, running from July 21 to August 16 this year. The league was launched to bring a faster version of cricket to fans and has seen increased attention with private IPL owners now managing four franchises.
Abrar’s signing shows that teams are willing to invest in talented international players, even from countries with complex sporting relations.
Abrar’s experience and ability to control the game in the middle overs will make him an important asset for Sunrisers Leeds.
Fans of Pakistani cricket will be watching closely to see how he performs in this new format and whether he can make a strong impact in The Hundred this season.
