Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said that lasting peace between Pakistan and Afghanistan can only be achieved if the Afghan Taliban take effective measures to stop cross-border attacks.

He stressed that Pakistan wants stable and friendly relations with Afghanistan, but this depends on both countries respecting each other’s borders and commitments.

Speaking after the recent ceasefire agreement reached in Doha, the minister said that the understanding between the two sides is based on trust and non-aggression.

He warned that any violation or attack from the Afghan side would break the agreement and damage ongoing peace efforts.

Khawaja Asif added that Pakistan has always supported dialogue and peaceful solutions to regional conflicts.

He said that peace in Afghanistan is directly linked to security and stability in Pakistan and the wider region. For that reason, he urged the Afghan government to take strict action against any groups involved in terrorism or border attacks.

He also noted that Pakistan is continuing its cooperation with neighboring countries and international partners to strengthen peace and prevent extremist activities.

The Defence Minister reaffirmed that Pakistan remains committed to maintaining calm along the border while protecting its sovereignty and citizens.

Officials believe that if both sides remain committed to their promises, the ceasefire could help rebuild trust and lead to stronger cooperation between Pakistan and Afghanistan in the future.
