PIA Announces Special Flights to Iraq for Arbaeen Pilgrims

PIA has stepped in to help thousands of Arbaeen pilgrims reach Iraq safely this year by launching a special flight operation to Najaf. With the government banning all road travel to Iran and Iraq because of security concerns, PIA’s special flights offer pilgrims an alternative to continue their spiritual journey.

The airline’s management confirmed that flights will run between August 8 and August 11, taking pilgrims from Pakistan directly to the holy city of Najaf. Return flights are planned between August 18 and August 23 to bring the pilgrims home after the religious gathering.

To make the journey affordable, PIA has set a discounted round-trip fare of $675 for each pilgrim. Tickets are already available, and the airline has announced that it is ready to increase the number of flights if there is more demand.

Every year, thousands of Pakistanis travel to Najaf to take part in Arbaeen, often crossing into Iraq by road through Iran. However, security challenges in Balochistan have forced the government to stop this route this year. Officials say the decision was taken to protect citizens and ensure their safety.

The sudden ban on road travel has led to protests in Quetta, where many pilgrims say they cannot afford air travel. They are asking the government to provide better security instead of blocking roads.

Despite the protests, PIA says it is committed to helping pilgrims get to Najaf safely and comfortably. With discounted tickets and possible extra flights, the national carrier hopes to ease the worries of thousands who wish to take part in this important religious event.
