Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday arrived in Davos, Switzerland to attend the World Economic Forum (WEF).

In a post on X, PM Shehbaz wrote that he arrived to advance Pakistan’s engagement at the WEF with global trade and investment partners.

A video included with the post showed him disembarking from his plane, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar.

“Pakistan’s ongoing economic reform journey is unlocking profound opportunities, driven by a resilient and entrepreneurial workforce and significant potential across energy, agriculture, minerals, and emerging technologies,” PM Shehbaz said.

He added that Pakistan was “ready to harness this potential into mutually beneficial economic cooperation and long-term investment”.

A separate post from the Foreign Office (FO) said that Dar, in addition to participating in WEF sessions, would also hold “sideline bilateral meetings with counterparts to advance Pakistan’s diplomatic and economic priorities”.

Meanwhile, the information minister said that PM Shehbaz had been invited to the WEF to “interact with world leaders and global CEOs”.

“This will be beneficial for Pakistan’s ongoing economic reform programme. Pakistan’s standing in the comity of nations is further strengthened by the resilience of its people and the potential for growth,” he said on X.

Earlier in the day, the FO said the annual WEF meeting would be held from January 20-22.

The statement added that the prime minister’s programme included “multiple substantive engagements”, including participation in the WEF’s Informal Gathering of World Economic Leaders (IGWEL) session on “Restoring a Spirit of Dialogue in a Divided World”.

It added that the prime minister would also host and chair a Pakistan-specific “High-level Business Roundtable” with different corporate leaders.

“On the sidelines, the prime minister is expected to interact with several world leaders, including business executives,” it said.

“Articulating Pakistan’s perspective on global and regional peace and development and highlighting the government’s vision and achievements in the areas of economy, trade and investment opportunities will be part of the prime minister’s key messages during the visit,” the statement added.

According to the FO statement, the WEF Annual Meeting brings together political leaders, business executives, heads of international organisations and civil society representatives. It deliberates on contemporary geopolitical, economic, social and environmental issues.
