The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is preparing to introduce new rules for using VPNs in Pakistan.

During a parliamentary committee meeting, PTA Chairman Retired Maj General Hafeezur Rehman announced the plans. The PTA will create a list of approved VPNs that can be used in the country while blocking all others.

This move is designed to regulate VPN access, ensuring that only authorized networks are available for use.

The aim of this policy is to control and monitor the use of VPNs more effectively. By allowing only whitelisted VPNs, the PTA hopes to enhance security and prevent the misuse of VPNs for illegal activities. This could involve using VPNs to bypass internet restrictions or engage in activities that violate local laws.

These new regulations are expected to impact both individuals and businesses that rely on VPNs for secure and private internet access. The PTA will likely provide guidelines on how to apply for VPN approval and outline the criteria for whitelisting.
