PTA Chairman, Major General (retd) Hafeez ur Rehman, addressed internet disruption concerns during a Senate Standing Committee meeting.

He clarified that sharks do not damage submarine cables, dismissing this as a cause of internet issues.

Committee members highlighted problems with slow internet speeds and app functionality, particularly voice notes failing to send. In response, the Chairman assured that steps are being taken to improve connectivity.

He explained that Pakistan currently operates seven submarine cables for internet access. To strengthen the network, plans are in place to add four to five more cables. Two of these are expected to be completed this year, which will enhance the country’s internet connectivity and reliability.

The Chairman stated that these developments are part of broader efforts to upgrade Pakistan’s digital infrastructure. The additional cables will address existing challenges and meet the growing demand for high-speed and dependable internet services.

This initiative demonstrates the PTA’s commitment to ensuring better internet access and supporting the country’s digital advancement. The planned enhancements will benefit users across Pakistan by providing more stable and efficient online services.
