Punjab Announces 7-Day Holiday For Schools Due to Heatwave

Punjab’s education minister, Rana Sikandar, has announced an additional seven-day break for schools from May 25 to 31 due to the intense heat, responding to concerns from parents and the public.

During this break, private schools conducting exams are allowed to remain open to ensure students can complete their assessments safely.

The announcement, shared through a post on social media, emphasizes the government’s priority to safeguard students during the severe weather conditions.

Earlier, the government had already scheduled summer vacations for all schools from June 1 to August 14 and adjusted school timings due to the high temperatures.

Schools will now operate from 7 am to 11:30 am on most days and from 7 am to 10:30 am on Fridays.

However, the All-Pakistan Private Schools Management Association (APPSMA) disagreed with the early start of vacations. They have requested permission to keep schools open for limited hours from June 1 to June 15 and have also asked for summer camps specifically for students in grades IX and X.

This decision reflects ongoing efforts to balance education continuity with the well-being of students amid challenging weather conditions.
