Punjab Announces Massive Fines for Public and Private Schools Opening Before 8:45 AM

The Punjab government has announced new winter school timings for both public and private institutions across the province. The updated schedule will be in effect from November 3, 2025, to January 31, 2026.

Officials have also warned of strict action against schools that violate the new rules, with fines reaching up to Rs. 500,000 for opening before the permitted time.

According to the new schedule, single-shift schools will now start classes at 8:45 AM and close at 1:30 PM from Monday to Thursday. On Fridays, schools will close earlier at 12:30 PM to allow for Friday prayers. This adjustment has been made to help students and teachers manage better during the cold winter mornings.

For double-shift schools, the morning session will follow the same 8:45 AM start time. The second (afternoon) session will run from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM between Monday and Thursday, and from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Fridays. Education authorities have instructed all schools to strictly adhere to these timings to avoid penalties.

The government’s decision aims to protect students from early morning cold and smog, which often worsen during the winter months. The Education Department has directed all district officers to ensure full compliance and to take legal action against institutions that disregard the policy.

Parents have welcomed the decision, saying it reflects concern for children’s health and safety. Officials hope the new timing policy will provide a more comfortable learning environment for students during the winter season.
