The Punjab government has announced that Lahore will have its first-ever tram service starting in February 2026. Punjab Transport Minister Bilal Akbar confirmed that the test run of the tram has been successfully completed.

The new service will run from Thokar to Harbanspura and will have space for 270 passengers at a time. The project, worth 3 million dollars, has been designed with support from Punjab NESPAK and PMA officials. The plan was developed after experts visited China to study modern transport systems.

The tram service is expected to provide Lahoris with a modern and eco-friendly way to travel, reducing the city’s dependence on motorcycles and cars.

In addition to Lahore’s tram, the government has also revealed plans for metro train projects in Faisalabad and Gujranwala.

According to the transport minister, the Faisalabad metro will serve around 300,000 passengers daily, while the Gujranwala metro will cater to about 140,000 passengers each day. These projects are part of a larger strategy to improve public transport facilities across Punjab.

Officials believe that these initiatives will not only make traveling easier for people but also help reduce air pollution, which has become a serious problem in many cities of the province.

By offering reliable and affordable public transport, the government hopes to encourage people to shift away from using motorcycles and private vehicles.

The launch of these projects marks a significant step toward modernizing Punjab’s transport system and building a cleaner, greener and more efficient future for its citizens.
